Integrative Wellness in Dentistry: Connecting Oral Health, Sleep, Nutrition, and Stress Reduction

This is a recorded, on-demand course.

This course is a practical, hygiene-focused course that shows how sleep, nutrition, and stress impact inflammation, saliva, bruxism, erosion, and long-term periodontal and caries risk. You will learn quick, scope-safe screening questions, patient-friendly education scripts, and simple referral pathways, including how to incorporate the Mallampati score as a supportive airway screening observation when appropriate. You will also gain chairside nutrition coaching centered on frequency and duration of acid and sugar exposure, plus stress-reduction tools you can teach in under a minute.

Learning Objectives

✔️ Identify common oral and behavioral indicators associated with disrupted sleep, nutrition patterns, and stress (e.g., xerostomia, mouth breathing, bruxism, erosion, inflammation trends) and apply a scope-safe screening workflow, including appropriate use of the Mallampati score as a supportive observation.

✔️ Deliver concise, patient-centered education using chairside scripts that explain how inadequate sleep affects inflammation, healing, pain sensitivity, and cravings, and how nutrition timing (frequency and duration of exposure) influences caries and erosion risk.

✔️ Implement an integrative hygiene action plan that includes neutral documentation, appropriate referral pathways, and brief stress-reduction tools that support both patient behavior change and clinician sustainability.
